The charm and utility of Lighthouses seem to hold a special meaning for many of us. Whether it’s the guiding light assuring safe passage through any weather, or the shear beauty and tranquility that they represent. Perhaps it the lonely dedication of the keeper that strikes a chord in our hearts, knowing that there were selfless people diligently working day in day out, through good weather and bad.
Throughout the 1000 Island Region you will find lighthouses, many are accessible only by boat, the majority of them are now private property and not open to the public. A notable exception is the Tibbet’s Point Lighthouse, is now open to the public as a hostel.
