Cape Vincent is at the head of the St. Lawrence River, and home to the Tibbetts Point Lighthouse.  On a clear day you can see The Nine Mile 2 Nuclear Powerplant cooling towers to the south located almost 40 miles away with the naked eye. With binoculars you can see the East Charity Shoal Lighthouse to the west of The Tibbetts Point Lighthouse.

Cape Vincent is the home of Fisheries Station and the associated free aquarium highlighting local species and issues.  You will also find one of the few Buffalo Ranches in the Northeast located on Fox Creek Road complete with a retail store and gift shop. No visit to Cape Vincent is complete without as stop at Aubrey’s Inn Market and Restaurant.

Cape Vincent has the Wolfe Island Ferry that will take you to Wolf Island and on to Kingston, Ontario.

The true jewel of Cape Vincent is the snorkel and scuba diving opportunities.  It is at the boat launch at the east end of town that you will find one of the best snorkel and novice dive sites in the 1000 Islands. The St. Louis lies in only 10-12 feet of water, still tied to the pier (which is now submerged). A nice shade tree, picnic tables and ample parking make this a nice spot for a family outing.

If you have your own boat, it is a nice launch to get you into the river.  Nearby you will find many wrecks of interest. One of the most popular is the Wolfe Islander II, a car ferry that was originally built in 1946 in Collingwood, Ontario as a gift for China. By the time she was completed the political climate had changed and she  was put into service for 30 years shuttling automobiles from Kingston to Wolfe Island until 1975. She sat idle for about 10 years, before she was cleaned up and intentionally sunk as the first scuba park in the 1000 Islands.  She was sunk in a protected “all weather” area at the mouth of Brown’s Bay on the north shore of Wolfe Island.  If you don’t have your own boat, you can catch the Wolfe Island Ferry (the one that still floats) over to Kingston and catch one of the many dive charters operating there.
